At 10:50 a.m. on June 30, 2024, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge officially opened after seven years of construction! This major transportation project connecting Shenzhen and Zhongshan reached its moment of glory amidst great anticipation. Behind this magnificent bridge and tunnel are the wisdom and efforts of countless people, with PCK making an outstanding contribution. After the Pingtan Strait Bridge and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, the opening of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge is another successful major national project that PCK has planned and executed with high quality.

Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge: A New Engine for the Development of the Greater Bay Area

The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge spans about 24 kilometers from Shenzhen in the east to Zhongshan in the west, about 30 kilometers north of the Humen Bridge and about 31 kilometers south of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. Once opened, it will allow travel between Shenzhen and Zhongshan within 30 minutes. As the "key horizontal axis" of the Pearl River Delta's A-shaped transportation network, it is also a major transportation hub in the core region of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.

Bridge, Tunnel and Island: The world's Most Complex Structure

The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge integrates bridges, islands, tunnels, and underwater interchanges, making it the most complex cross-sea cluster project currently in the world.

Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge: Originally named the Lingdingyang Bridge, it is less than three kilometers long but is one of the critical control projects of the entire line. To meet the demands of busy navigation, a 1,666-meter super-large span bridge was adopted, with a clearance height of 76.5 meters, making it the highest clearance sea bridge in the world.

Undersea Tunnel: The undersea tunnel of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge spans 6,845 meters, making it the longest and widest undersea steel-shell concrete immersed tunnel in the world. It consists of 32 sections weighing about 80,000 tons each and a final joint, demonstrating the top-notch engineering skills and strong support of intelligent construction systems.

West Artificial Island: Covering an area of about 137,000 square meters, the West Artificial Island is a crucial hub for bridge-tunnel conversion. The island is supported by 57 steel cylinders with diameters of 28 meters, heights of 35-40 meters, and weights of up to 650 tons. Using self-developed 12-hammer synchronous vibration technology, the engineering team successfully drove the giant steel cylinders into place, creating a world record for rapid island formation in just four and a half months.

PCK: Providing High Quality Materials, Ensuring High Standards

The total investment for the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge is approximately 46 billion RMB. Leveraging its strategic location and extensive experience in several major national projects, PCK successfully became a key supplier for this significant project, providing high-quality steel pipes. On August 23, 2018, large-diameter, high-tonnage spiral steel pipe piles produced by PCK Zhuhai were successfully shipped from the PCK’s Zhuhai port, marking the successful delivery of the first batch of steel pipes for the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge project. Since 2018, PCK has continuously participated in key segments of the project, including the construction of the East Artificial Island and the main line tunnel (S03 section) and the main project of the cross-river passage (S09 section), providing solid support for the bridge's final opening.

The steel pipes supplied by PCK for the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge project are 3.3 meters in diameter, 35 meters long and weigh 64 tons. They have high anti-corrosion and precision standards, far exceeding those of ordinary steel pipes, and must pass strict third-party inspections. To meet these requirements, PCK Zhuhai established a dedicated Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge project team, integrated existing resources and improved techniques in submerged arc welding, forming control and anti-corrosion processes, overcoming numerous technical challenges to ensure that the product would meet the 100-year service life requirement of the bridge. In addition, by systematically recording material inspection and parameter data, they achieved information management, ensured traceable quality control, and significantly improved production efficiency, reducing the delivery cycle from 10 days per shipment to 4 days per shipment.

Looking Ahead: Continuing to Support National Infrastructure Construction

The successful opening of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge marks an acceleration in the integration process of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and is another important milestone in the development of PCK Group. The company is immensely proud to have been part of this "golden corridor" and to have contributed to its realization.

In recent years, PCK has rapidly risen in the field of marine engineering equipment, forming a complete series of products for deepwater oil and gas transportation pipes, marine platform pipes, offshore wind power pipes, and marine infrastructure pipes, becoming a new highlight in the market.

In the future, the company will continue to uphold the principles of quality first and customer supremacy, actively participating in more major national projects to contribute to the modernization of infrastructure. With the continuous favorable development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, PCK is confident that more development opportunities lie ahead.
